Disposal of PPE

Jennifer from Bridgeport, CT.:

“Does garbage accumulated in the operatory (used gloves etc) have to be disposed of or handled any differently?

Fabulous course, loved the fogging one, too.  We have a 30 chair clinic and are losing our minds, especially since our state has very stringent recommendations.”

My response:

“Hi Jennifer,

I don’t envy your position with a 30 chair clinic!!! You must be pulling your hair out. The short answer is that we have to assume that our PPE is contaminated after we work on a patient.  They need to be taken off with care and disposed of in a closed container.  In my office, we are putting our used gloves in hazardous waste disposal bins.  Putting them in trash bins might lead to unintended cross-contamination.  I hope this answers your question! I am glad you are enjoying our webinars. The feedback is helpful and I hope to continue providing the dental profession with resources to ensure our safe return to work.  I wish you the best of luck. “
Sincerely,

Lisa Germain
